The PSI Lab
An instrument for estimating whether value will actually be realized, not just whether it exists on paper. Three inputs. One reading. Four modes of inquiry.
Learning modev0.3.1 in active calibration. Scores are decision input, not decision replacement.
Formula
PSI = B × (1 ± E/10), B = (Gn − P) / P
+ when B ≥ 0, − when B < 0, so better Experience always helps
Gn = 10·log₁₀(1 + G), G in $10K units
Gn = 10·log₁₀(1 + G), G in $10K units
Inputs
Gain · Annual net value
30 units of $10K, normalized Gn = 14.91
Pain · Change Cost
Experience · Adoption
Field Note
Gain is annual net value to the buyer: revenue uplift, plus productivity, plus cost take-out, minus what they pay. It is counted in $10K units because the log scale is not unit-free: the same deal entered in dollars would read Exceptional every time. Each 10x in Gain adds 10 to Gn.

PSI = (14.91 − 5) / 5 × (1 + 2/10)
where Gn = 10·log₁₀(1+30) = 14.91 ($300K/yr)
= 1.983 × 1.20 = 2.379
Active Levers
PSI gained from one realistic step on each input: Gain up 25%, Pain down 0.5 (one rubric step on one component), Experience up 0.5 (one step on one factor).

Coaching Cue
High-confidence close. Focus on speed of execution, not persuasion. Tighten the close plan, surface decision-makers, set procurement on rails. Avoid over-engineering the value case.

PSI does not measure product value. It measures the likelihood that value will be realized.
